South Asian pianist Vijay Iyer unveils a new joint project Tirtha, an exciting and dynamic trio collaboration with two innovative Indo-Jazz virtuosos including guitarist Prasanna, and young tabla player Nitin Mitta. Tirtha generates an astonishingly full ensemble sound and achieving a natural and organic synthesis of traditional soundscapes. The result is a 21st-century, jazz-meets-world music chamber that is eminently listenable and vibrantly alive.
Pianist Vijay Iyer was voted the #1 Rising Star Jazz Artist and #1 Rising Star Composer in the Downbeat Magazine International Critics' Poll for both 2006 and 2007, and was described in The Village Voice as “the most commanding pianist and composer to emerge in recent years.” Pioneering guitarist Prasanna is a celebrated virtuoso performer of South Indian classical music as well as an accomplished composer in a wide range of Western and non-Western forms. The prodigiously gifted young tabla player Nitin Mitta has emerged as one of North America’s most in-demand Indian percussionists.
